This was a personal project of a stylised Volkswagen Van family market. I took heavy inspiration from the film "Luca", and city of Cinque Terre. The scene itself is stylised, but I aimed for a mixture of photo-real materials, and painted textures to create the look of this piece.
The early stages of this project consisted of proxy blocking, figuringĀ out composition, and experimenting with different techniques within Maya to bring the scene to life.
Analysing Luca, I noticed all the modelling to be quite stylised, whilst the surfacing was more photo-real. Using this I wanted to push proportions of my model to replicate a similar environment.
I used deformers in Maya to push proportions and curve shapes.
Due to the big scale of the scene, and repetition of objects (eg. fruits and flowers) I assembled the scene duplicating in instances. This saved me a lot of time UV unwrapping so I would just need to unwrap one of each type of asset.
I painted up a quick concept art to help guide my colours and composition.
For duplicate objects, I made 2/3 versions so that they wouldn't look repetitive (eg. fruits and veggies). I also textured assets in groups to help make the scene cohesive- to do this, I organised my UVs into UDIMs and would export groups out into substance.
I used Luca as inspiration with all the warm lighting, and compiled a moodboard for the style I was after.
